Speck Products CandyShell Case for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black/Gray)

Comment: While there are other very large and rugged cases available, this case provides great protection in a slim size. The case is essentially constructed like a crash helmet. It has a hard outer shell to spread impact load and an inner lining to absorb energy. This arrangement provides more protection than a thick silicone case alone. Mine is black like the phone so many people don't notice it is there at all. The earphone plug hole is small so you may need to enlarge it slightly (which may weaken the case) or find cables with small enough ends.

Comment: The product lives up to its promise of providing superior protection for my iPhone 3GS. It is bulkier than my previous clear case, but it has much better protection on the front edge. It slides in and out of my pocket with ease and the rubber on the front keeps it from getting scratched when I lay it face down.

It is hard to remove the phone from the case, but I followed the instructions on Speck's web site and was finally able to get it off. I felt I was going to seperate the rubber corners from the shell before I watched their video on how to do it. The back has fine scratches from carrying it in my front jeans pocket without anything else, but I guess that is better than scratching the phone itself.

Overall, I think it was a great purchase for under $20 and I have also bought a white one for my wife's iPhone. (The white does not show the fine scratches as much as my black one)

Comment: I did try a couple of cases before I got the speck candyshell,
But nothing comes close to it-
I used the casemate vroom for a month but everytime you
pull out the phone - along comes your pocketing - which
is very embarresing-
I also tried a chinese hard case but dust would get inside
and it had no drop protection.
So some goggling later finalised on the candyshell-
Superb product- Cant wait to get a white one-

Comment: Just upgraded to 3gs and decided to invest in a new case. My old one was the Belkin leather case. While it was a nice looking case, the fit was loose, debris got in and worse of all, the top of the phone was exposed, resulting in scuffs to the corners. After much research, decided on the candyshell based on the reviews. I was a bit concerned that it wouldn't fit the 3gs. The reviews were pretty much spot on. I am so pleased with the case, I decided to return the favor and leave a review. It's a nice, sleek looking case but very prone to scratches. I've had it for a few hours, mostly in my purse (which has a separate compartment for the phone) and ys already scuffed up. Better the case than my new phone! The fit seems pretty tight. Since I don't plan on switching cases, it doesn't bother me but I can see why others have had an issue with it. I did have to jiggle it around since the buttons for the ringer weren't lined up and it kept pushing the volume to the lowest setting. Basically I had to move the phone up towards me. I just hope i don't have issues with the bottom cracking. I don't anticpate so since I won't be taking it on and off. Overall I'm very pleased with the case. The screen protector was a nice bonus that I previously had to purchase separately. Thanks for all the great reviews that helped me make the decision.

Comment: The CandyShell case is pretty good. I ordered it in August when I got my 3GS. The screen protector did well for a couple months, but became very scratched up, even though I keep my phone in my pocket with nothing else in it. The case itself is very sturdy and offers great protection. My only problems with the case are that, of course, it is too big to use on my FM transmitter/car charger, so I need to remove it from the case for that. That has led to some small scratches on the chrome bezel at the bottom of the phone. Another problem is that mine actually broke. The part at the bottom of the case that covers the front, bottom edge of the phone is thin to allow access to the connector, which is fine; however, mine broke without ever being dropped or smashed or anything. It cracked in the center. Luckily these cases have a 1 year warranty, so I emailed Speck and they replaced it quickly (5 days later I had a new one). Overall, it is a good case for protecting your iPhone from damage, you may just need to use a different car charger/FM transmitter.
