Incipio Zune HD feather Ultralight Hard Shell Case (Black)

"Feather" is really the perfect name for this case, for a few different reasons. First off, the case is very form-fitting and adds hardly any bulk to the svelte Zune HD unit. The Zune snaps into the case and covers the back and sides of the unit, the case is so tight that it's tough to get the Zune out! Please note that there is NO front protection, not even for the "lip" below the screen. The plastic that the case is made of is very soft and feather-like, it's almost velvety to the touch. Because the case is so minimalistic, it offers about as much drop-protection as a coat of feathers would. This case is clearly designed to protect against scratches and scuffs, not drops. If you feel the need for drop protection (though, the Zune has no internal moving parts, so really only the screen is in danger) I suggest the other, thicker Incipio case (EDGE) or the DLO HipCase.

I bought both the Incipio Feather case and the Incipio EDGE Slider case for the Zune HD and have listed the advantages and disadvantages below:

General:
- both cases offer excellent protection from scratches and drops (I actually dropped mine on cement while the Zune HD was incased in the Feather and it protected it perfectly.)

Feather advantages:
- easy to remove and attach
- doesn't interfere with screen protectors

Feather disadvantages:
- requires removal from Zune HD when inserting into charger dock (not a huge disadvantage since it's easy to remove and attach)

EDGE Slider advantages:
- case bottom is removable for inserting into charge dock

EDGE Slider disadvantage:
- Can't apply a screen protector PRIOR to sliding case onto Zune because it causes screen protectors to buckle (I read this on another review prior to purchasing the EDGE Slider, but thought I could work around it. I...Read more

I bought the Incipio Feather case to protect my new Zune HD. It is a hard case, and includes a (separate) transparent screen to cover the display area. I was very impressed by how easily the screen went on, and how accurately it fitted. I have a Palm T3, and made a royal screw-up of fitting a new screen protector on that. The hard case for the Zune clicks on very easily, and covers all of the unit except the pieces you need to access (on/off on top; volume control on left edge; headphone and sync cable on bottom edge). If you use the HD AV dock you need to remove the case, which is not easy. Appearance is matt black, and slim, which suits me. If you have a fancy finish on your Zune HD you might want to consider a transparent case. All-in-all I like it. Good value for the money, and it will do the job.
