This review applies to the iPhone 3G version of this case but can be considered for the iPod Touch as well -- structurally identical except for the chrome-lined camera lens hole (iPhone version only.)

This is the third case I've experimented with for my iPhone 3G. The Case-Mate "naked" shell was my first purchase, and was an absolute disaster. The beveled edge which lines the face of the phone was very sharp, and began to hurt my ear almost immediately following the beginning of a phone call (I'm talking actual pain -- not just a minor inconvenience.) The phone also fit entirely too snugly into the case, meaning detaching the back plate from the top was a task in itself. The built-in screen protector not only crippled touch sensitivity, but also easily trapped dirt, debris, dust, you name it; and needed to be cleaned once a week. Keep in mind the difficulty involved in disassembling the shell, and you've got a painful nuisance on your hands.

This case slides smoothly onto the iPod 2nd and 3rd gen after installing the included screen protector. Being a split case design, the lower half removes easily for docking, then reattaches firmly with a positive click action. The lower half doesn't need to be removed if using the supplied cable.

The quality of this case is very high, and the fit is as close as I could imagine. Unlike soft silicone cases, this will not stretch or distort after a period of time. The case has an almost carbon composite appearance, a hard rubber feel, and provides excellent grip. The matt back finish looks crisp, and low profile, so you won't be drawing attention to your shiny new iPod 3rd gen!

I've tried a few case designs, and looked at friends' cases, and the elan family of cases has always rated highly, but this case is simply outstanding.

This is a beautiful & rugged cover for the iPod Touch rear case. The lower portion removes & re-installs easily for docking. Also, it fits easily & securely into my leather iPod wallet. I would highly recommend it. And, it this price it was a bargain.
