Decent, but corners crack easily,

I am *extremely* careful with my electronic equipment, one of the reasons I bought this cover after careful product review of similar items. When the iPad is not being used (for reading, mainly), it lives in a padded case for additional protection.
I have had this snap shield since the day my iPad2 came out of its box, and even with hyper-careful handling, 3 of 4 corners have cracks. How's they get there? I've never taken the cover off, the device has NEVER been dropped, you can see that there's no damage to the corners from the outside, but still...3/4 of the corners are cracked and splitting wider.
Is this a heat issue? Cold issue? What's the deal, Belkin?
Buy it if you want something only for a few months. Otherwise there are other products out there. Too bad, too, because this exactly fit my needs.

This review is from: Belkin Snap Shield - Back Cover for Apple iPad 2 (SMOKE) (Personal Computers)
There are two revisions of this product with the same part number. I went through 2 of these covers before I realized this. The only way to tell from inside the package is that the microphone hole on the new revision is a trapezoid shape and on the old it is a straight slot. Once out of the package you will see the new revision has edges that come over the side of the iPad instead of just up to the edge like the old rev. The old rev gets hairline cracks in all the corners and starts to crumble within a month or two. My wife has had the new rev for 4 months and I have now had mine for 2 months and no cracks have appeared. I went through 2 covers before I discovered the difference on my third. The problem is both revs are still out there, like this one I bought from Amazon which was broken within 2 weeks.

I purchased this direct from J&R and received it about 3 weeks ago. As stated, the shield covers only the rear of the iPad 2, and installation was a snap (literally). Once on, it's very slim and unobstructive and offers a very good nonslip feel, making the iPad easier to hold. The fit is excellent. Finish was good, with the exception of a couple grains of grit which I could feel (but not see). In my opinion, this cover adds to the utility and very much to the appearance of the iPad.
However, I recently noticed what appeared to be a hairline crack on the case near one of the corners. After very gently removing the shield, I noticed that there were in fact several hairline cracks, all located at/near three of the corners (and no, I didn't crack it during installation or removal). As the iPad 2/shield had always been handled gently and never dropped, I could see no reason for the appearance of these cracks, except as through defects in manufacturing and/or design. It's...Read more
