3.0 out of 5 stars Great protection, some flaws, January 1, 2007

This case provides excellent protection. The sturdy acrylic is thick and rigid. The brushed metal-trimmed front comes off only with significant force, leaving a box that fits the Zune so snugly to takes significant work to remove the Zune after it is pressed into it. It is obvious the case is made to close tolerances, and is, overall, a quality product.

That said, I do have some complaints.

First, as said in previous reviews, it makes the pause/play and back buttons very ditticult to press. The countersunk opening for the buttons barely allows a fingertip to touch them... You must press with a good amount of force to make them work. It makes navigating through the Zune's menus tedious work, and makes it hard to pause your music or video when and where you wish to.

Second, I'm not sure if this is common, but my belt clip arrangement seems very untrustworthy. The belt clip is completely removable, held in place by a clip that engages the hole for...Read more

I really like the looks and durability of this case. I have one major complaint, however. I use my Zune in the car with the FM transmitter that came with the travel kit from Microsoft. With this case, the FM transmitter cannot be used as it will not plug in all the way. The idea of getting a case, for me, is to protect my Zune. I don't see the point of taking the unit out of the case each time I get in the car. Also, the unit fits so tightly in the case that it is more than a bit of a hassle to take it out and put it back in all the time. I like most everything else about this design, other than that the port on the bottom does not work for the Microsoft FM Transmitter. Ultimately I am going to find a different case.

Overall I think this is an okay case with some notable positives and negatives. On the positive side it completly envelopes the zune with the exception of the docking port and earphone jack. There is even a thin layer of flexible plastic over the buttons and d-pad. The belt clip rotates by 90 degrees allowing you to wear the Zune in a horizontal or vertical orientation.

On the negative side the presence of the case makes the buttons more difficult to operate and does add some bulk to the unit.

I'm on the fence about how the case opens. The front metalic part of the case can be pulled off with a decent amount of force. This could be bad in that it makes the case more difficult to open, or positive because I am sure that the case isn't going to pop open even with a fair amount of jolting.
